Let’s hope for a green CeBIT this year

Live blog from CeBIT ‘08 Global technology Exhibition in Hannover

CeBIT, Europe’s biggest IT trade show, opened its doors today. The organisers expect that this year’s edition in Hannover will draw about 400,000 visitors.

 One of the major themes at CeBIT is how to make IT more environmental-friendly. An entire warehouse-sized hall is completely dedicated to green IT. It must be said that this is actualy an interesting point of view, since this trade fair consumes as much energy as the entire city of Bonn in one day. When it’s implemented in the right manner, Green IT can not only make a huge difference for the environment, it will also prove to be cost-efficient in the long run. Imagine mobile phones and laptops driven by solar cells. Enterprises are switching to green energy (we at EmailGarage are installing solar pannels at this very moment). Let’s all take that first step towards ethical energy consumption. This planet will love us for it.

    Green IT is a big theme this year, not only at CeBIT but also in venture capital spending. Definitely a positive trend that CeBIT is supporting this year.
